Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Gist of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

The story starts here when two women Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy materialize out of air and go visit Severus Snape in his house. Narcissa feels that her son Draco needs protection and therefore makes Severus swear solemnly that he would take care of him in Hogwarts.

She formalizes this with the Unbreakable Vow.

The next scene is in the Dursleys’ house at night. Harry is sound asleep in his room by his bedside window. Suddenly, he jerks awake to see Dumbledore walking towards his home or more likely… the Dursleys’ home. They speak for some time in the due course of which Harry gets to know that he had inherited all of Sirius’ stuffs from Galleon to No. 12, Grimmauld Place the house of the Blacks. Harry also notices that Dumbledore’s hand looked kind of blackened as though by some curse.

They then set out together by apparating to visit Dumbledore’s friend Horace Slughorn. He is requested by Dumbledore to come back to Hogwarts which he agrees to do.

Then again by Apparating, Harry is in The Burrow. Dumbledore and Harry speak for some time and Harry retreats into the house of the Weasleys. Harry is fed and he goes to sleep. Next morning, to his surprise, he finds that Fleur was there too. The same day, they get their O. W. L.s exam result. Harry and Ron pass with 7 O. W. L.s and Hermione with 9 of them.

They then go to Diagon Alley to get their school stuffs. On their way, they meet Narcissa and Draco Malfoy. They literally get into a fight but, they are stopped by Madam Rosmerta, the owner of Flourish and Blotts.

They then set out in the train to Hogwarts. Harry then sneaks onto the Slytherins’ compartment to check on Draco’s activities. But, finally Draco discovers Harry under his Invisibility Cloak and petrifies him only to break Harry’s nose. Harry is then left alone with no soul knowing that he was there. Then, Tonks comes to his rescue. She heals Harry’s nose and proceeds to take Harry back to Hogwarts’ gates.

Harry is then let in by Snape. Harry then totally forgets his bloodied face only to be reminded by Hermione. All of the Hogwartians notice Dumbledore’s blackened hand and all of them create their own theories. Dumbledore welcomes professor Slughorn as the teacher to the post of the Potions teacher and Snape as Defense against the Dark Arts to all students’ utmost disappointment.

The students’ year starts and Harry and Ron are persuaded by professor McGonagall to take up potions that year. Harry and Ron agree to and they take up old books. Harry’s book contains a lot of info totally deviating from the subject also. He also discovers a spell i.e.; Sectumsempra for enemies. Harry gets better and better at potions with the help of the book he had. And once, he even got a tiny bottle of luck potion called Felix Felicis.

He also begins to take private lessons from Dumbledore in which he looks into the Pensieve. Harry gains more and more knowledge about Voldemort’s past life. Harry also gets invitations from professor Slughorn to many parties throughout the year.

Harry, as Quidditch Captain also recruits all of the other people to strengthen the School’s Quidditch team. Ginny assists him almost every time.

Later after the holidays, Harry is asked by Dumbledore to collect a very specific memory from Professor Slughorn which Harry does. The memory is about how Voldemort came to know about how to divide his soul into Seven Parts.

Then later on, both Harry and Dumbledore go to a place where they perceive that the next Horcrux or a part of Voldemort’s soul was.

The ending is like that of Dumbledore, being weak, returning to Hogwarts. He is later killed by Snape using the Death Curse.

Harry also discovers to his horror that the Half-Blood Prince is none other than Snape himself.

So ends Harry’s sad sixth year with a lot of regret.
