What Is Acne? Causes, Symptoms & Treatments

What is acne? Acne is a long-term skin disease which is common in young adults and teenagers. Acne is of three types. This is common in the age groups of around 14-late 20s. Now, let us know what is acne and how it can be prevented.

What Is Acne

Acne is a long-term skin disease which can be really annoying if you pay attention. Acne causes clogging in hair follicles with dead cells and oil from the sebaceous glands. This causes inflammation and pimples, and sometimes even permanent scars. This condition often leads to a sense of despair and in serious situations even thoughts of suicide.

And, after its initial attack, and finally when it begins subsiding, the skin tends to produce more melanin over the areas affected thereby giving the skin a darkened appearance. This is very common among people with dark skin and is one of the reasons for poor self-confidence.

Acne Symptoms

Acne can leave quite a history behind once you are in its influence. It causes-

  • Pigmentation and
  • Scarring

Pigmentation occurs due to the production of the high quantity of melanin in affected areas, especially on the cheeks and jaws. This pigmentation tends to fade over time even though it is rendered permanent. But, the fact is, with proper treatment and care, it fades away. And, even minimal exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays can cause hyperpigmentation.

Scarring is caused due to the abnormal healing of the skin following the dermal inflammation. Scarring often comes after severe acne. It can be cured after a treatment, but it is never the confirmation that the scars might fade fully without a trace. This is what acne is.

Acne Causes (What Causes Acne)

Acne is caused by –

  • Genes
  • Diet
  • Environmental Causes
  • Infections
  • Stress and even
  • Medications
